Star-Force registration problems

PROBLEM

The first time you try to access the software, you receive a message stating that you must activate the program. However, you are unable to register your software either because your computer is not on the internet, or you get a Star-Force error message after you try to enter your serial number and/or hardware code.

SOLUTION

Keep in mind that the serial number that you have been issued will allow you to install and register the software on ONE COMPUTER ONLY. After you have successfully registered the product on one computer, you will not be allowed to register the product on any more computers, unless you purchase a site license. As a result, PLEASE DO NOT RUN THE ACTIVATION PROCEDURE UNLESS YOU ARE ON THE COMPUTER THAT YOU WANT TO PERMANENTLY USE THE SOFTWARE ON.

You may wish to print this guide to have an easy reference as you perform the activation procedure.

Please perform the following steps to activate your software:

  1. Double click on the Digital Scout icon for the software you need to register. Here is what the Digital Scout icon looks like for the Statware Basketball version 4.0 product:

(NOTE: After you double click the icon, a Star-Force window may appear that tells you that you need to restart your computer. If this restart window appears, close any open programs, and click Yes on the Star-Force window. This will restart your computer, and then you can try to double click on the Digital Scout icon again to continue.)

  2. The following Star-Force window will appear.

If you have an internet connection on your computer, click the Internet Access button on this window and follow the steps below to perform the automatic activation process. (If you use a dial-up connection, please connect to the internet before clicking the button.) If you do not have internet access, please click here to go to the next step of the process.

    • The following dialog will appear:

    • Type your serial number into the rectangular field at the bottom of this dialog. Your serial number is either on the front of your Getting Started guide or it is contained in the e-mail you received from ordering the downloadable version of the software. Please make sure that you type the serial number in capital letters, and include the hyphen characters.
    • After you have entered the complete serial number, click the Activate button. Your software will communicate over the internet with the Star-Force servers and attempt to register your software automatically. After a few moments, if it comes back and indicates that your software was registered successfully, you can click the OK button and the software will launch. Your software is now successfully activated on your computer, and you will not need to go through this process again.
    • If you receive an error message that your serial number is invalid or mistyped, please click OK and make sure that you typed the serial number correctly (including the hyphens and capital letters).
    • If you receive a connection error message, you may have security restrictions that prevent you from using the automatic activation feature. If so, please click Back until you are the dialog with the Internet Access and No Internet Access buttons, and then continue with the next step below.

  3. In order to manually activate the software, you will need to be at the first Star-Force dialog that appears when you first launch the program:

Click the No Internet Access button on this window and follow the steps below to perform the manual activation process.

    • The following dialog will appear:

    • Write down (or select all of text in the rectangle and copy) the hardware code shown in the field at the bottom of the dialog. (Please note that yours will be different than the one shown.)
    • Visit the Star-Force activation web site at:

      http://proactive.star-force.com/1.0/activate.php

    • A web page will appear that looks like the following:

    • Type your serial number into the Serial Number field. Your serial number is either on the front of your Getting Started guide or it is contained in the e-mail you received from ordering the downloadable version of the software. Please make sure that you type the serial number in capital letters, and include the hyphen characters.
    • Type your hardware code that you wrote down from above (or paste if you copied it from above) into the Hardware Code field. Please make sure that you type the hardware code in capital letters, and include the hyphen characters.
    • Click the Submit button.
    • If you have correctly typed in your serial number and hardware code, a web page will appear that looks like the following:

    • Write down (or select all of text in the rectangle and copy) the activation key shown inside the rectangle on the web page. (Please note that yours will be different than the one shown.)
    • Switch back to the Star-Force Protection System window and click the Next button. You should then be at the following dialog:

    • Type your activation key that you wrote down from the web site above (or paste if you copied it from above) into the rectangular field at the bottom of this dialog. Please make sure that you type the activation key in capital letters, and include the hyphen characters.
    • Click the Activate button.
    • Your software will analyze your hardware code and activation key in order to attempt to register your software. If the activation key has been entered correctly, the software will launch and it will be registered.
    • If you receive an error message that your serial number is invalid or mistyped, please click OK and make sure that you typed the activation key correctly (including the hyphens and capital letters).

At this point, your software should be registered. If you receive any error or other informational messages that you think are preventing you from registering the software, please click this link to use our on-line tech support question form and provide us with the exact error or informational messages that you are receiving.

The Star-Force registration process is dependent on the system date on your computer. If the system date on your computer is significantly off from the current date, you may receive a message during the Star-Force activation process that indicates that the time settings are invalid on your computer. If that is the case, please reset the clock on your system to the correct date and try the registration process again from the beginning.
