Digital Scout to Provide Statistical
Analysis for USA Baseball Tournament
COLUMBUS, OHIO (August 31, 2001)
- USA Baseball officials will use Digital Scout's Baseball Statwareï
software to collect statistics and conduct performance analysis for
the upcoming Labor Day Classic Tournament at USA Baseball's headquarters
in Tucson, Arizona. It will be the first time a major USA Baseball
tournament will utilize Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), the popular
handheld computers, to record and analyze official tournament statistics.
The tournament will host ten teams with players18-under,
from August 31 through September 2. During the tournament, USA Baseball
will heavily evaluate players from across the nation for future consideration
to USA National Teams. "We like
the idea of having up to 200 players in Tucson to evaluate as we
prepare for our 2002 international competitions," said Eric Campbell,
associate director of national teams. "This event will enable USA
Baseball to fine-tune our information as the summer closes."
USA Baseball officials will use the Digital
Scout software to collect team and individual player statistics
at the games. The handheld devices, which utilize the Palm Operating
System, provide point and touch technology for real-time analysis
on screen. The handheld computers then synchronize with personal
computers, enabling users to print numerous reports after the game.
"Our Baseball Statware will place a vast
resource of team and player information in the hands of USA Baseball
officials," said Jim Emery, co-founder and chief executive officer
of Digital Scout. "USA Baseball officials, who observed Digital
Scout Statware at two prior tournaments, feel that our Baseball
Statware will bring increased mobility, accuracy, and speed to their
statistic collection and analysis. We are excited about the opportunity
to work with USA Baseball and provide the official statistics at
this important tournament."
Digital Scout Statware records the team record
as well as team and individual batting, pitching and fielding statistics
for the home and opponent teams. The software can record statistics
for one game or, cumulatively, for a tournament or an entire season.
The application provides both scorecard and boxscore formats.
