ASA/USA Softball taps Digital Scout
for Gold Fastpitch National Championship
Broken Arrow, OK -
ASA/USA Softball utilized new technology developed by Digital Scout,
Inc. when the nation's top teams competed in the 18-under Softball
Fastpitch Gold National Championship, August 5-7. Digital Scout's
new tournament management software application enabled the ASA/USA
tournament directors to quickly compare the statistics of all players
in all games to evaluate relative performances in all key positions.
Sixty-six teams from across the nation
came to Arrowhead Park in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to compete in
the National Championship. The teams utilized eight fields and played
130 games in six days. At the conclusion of the tournament, the
first and second team 18-under Softball Fastpitch All-Americans
were named.
The tournament provided a premier event for
Digital Scout to demonstrate its new tournament management software,
an important addition to its suite of sports software applications.
Tournament Director utilizes another Digital Scout product, Statware,
which enables the collection on a handheld computer of real-time
team and player statistics. This collected data is transferred with
the touch of a button to a desktop computer for the printing of
detailed reports and hitting charts. The new software for tournament
directors aggregates the results of multiple teams using Statware,
compares the data, and then identifies top performers in all key
events.
Statware is the Official Handheld Statistical
Software of the ASA and USA Baseball. "Being able to partner with
Digital Scout has enabled ASA to enhance the record keeping and
statistical recording process for softball tournaments and softball
teams across the country," said Ron Radigonda, Executive Director
of ASA/USA Softball.
The new tournament management software used
in Broken Arrow will be released for sale in March, 2003.
As the national governing body of softball in
the United States, the Amateur Softball Association/USA Softball
is responsible for selecting players and coaches for the Olympic
Games, Pan America Games and ISF World Championships.
Digital Scout is the nation's leading provider
of sports statistical, coaching, and performance tracking software
for the handheld computer. Digital Scout products utilize the handheld
computer, specifically Palm Operating System's point-and-touch technology,
to provide real-time statistical collection and analysis. After
the game, the data is transferred instantly to the desktop for the
printing of detailed reports and hitting charts. Digital Scout products
help teams win in softball, baseball, basketball, football, soccer,
and volleyball. Product demos, report samples, and current pricing
